Julie and Julia

We LOVED the movie!  It was even better than Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (which FHB and I watched the other night).

Of course, Prince announced that it was a “stupid movie” before the credits were even done at the beginning.   It must be difficult to always see the glass as 1/8 full.

The chicken smells amazing.  Prince put on a pot of rice (with strong encouragement) and headed to the Bat Cave again.

Just need to figure out a vegetable.

He made a half-hearted 5 minute effort at the shovelling and came in stating “It doesn’t matter”.  After the show he asked when Wonder Boy is coming home.  Perhaps he wants to make an effort before then?????

FHB did all the garbage cans (after I pointed out the missed ones) and cleaned his room (Three star rating) but I let it go.  Life is just too short to focus on the minors.

Daisy is now relaxing in the livingroom.

Just another day in Paradise.

Day 7 Update

Well…

I went to pick up FHB and he brought Einstein to the car.  Einstein wanted me to give permission for FHB to go to the Grade 5 recreation program from 2 to 4 pm at the Leisure Center.  Apparently this is a planned program with the teachers attending and it sounded to me like they are SUPPOSED to go.

Anyway…I had to bring them home to get the swimming gear and then, we got part-way there when FHB announced that he had forgotten his pass card.  Tried to turn around and got into a terrible snow piled back road but thankfully didn’t get stuck.

I dropped these two off with warnings “Don’t drown because I will be embarrassed and limited to only one day to problem-solve” and “No matter what, DON’T leave the arena.  I will pick you up”.  FHB was delighted and said that Red Seal would never have allowed this.  Einstein suggested that I could just adopt another child if FHB drowned.  They both agreed that the best was just not to tell.  (I said that someone might meet Red Seal downtown and unknowingly mention it).  I gave him $7 as Einstein had $10 and wanted French Fries.

Because of the above, I was significantly late getting Prince.  We headed to the Bell to buy the IPOD and had quite a wait only to find out that they didn’t have the item I wanted in stock.  Prince tried to encourage me to drive to Calgary.  NOT!

Next to the Leisure Center.  Prince was obviously worried when he couldn’t spot the boys in the pool but I had already checked at the desk and knew they were there.  I ordered a cheeseburger but Prince wasn’t at all interested.  In fact, he told me how he hated the food there – until I got mine.  Then he wanted one so I gave him money for the order.

Suddenly, the boys came around the cornor and FHB was WIRED.  He was chatting up all the girls and Prince just shook his head and rolled his eyes.

Prince noticed some guys at another table and went over to visit with them.  I headed to the curling rink side but that entrance was closed.  On my way back, I stopped at the table and started talking with the boys.  Prince was the deepest shade of crimson even though he didn’t even hear the conversation.  I asked if he was embarrassed and one boy said “My mom is always saying Colton are you embarrassed?”

We stopped the flirting (FHB) and headed out.  I explained that I was discussing the Grey Cup Defensive Coach and Cayman’s winning of the Hawaii State championship.  Geeeezzzz!  Prince said “I can hardly wait until my mom is back”. (I don’t know if he just wants to get rid of me or if he figures she will stay out of his life).

Well…we are home.  I had to get annoying with FHB who hasn’t seen his dog all day.  I booted him out (lasted about 10 minutes).  Now he is cleaning his room.  He has a pattern of problems with telling the truth.  Like “I just shovelled the sidewalk”.  “I fed Daisy”.  “I did my homework”.

Prince overpromises and under delivers.  “Yes, Grandma” merely means “I am still alive and breathing”.

Prince was to shovel the sidewalk but retreated to the Bat Cave.  Didn’t do it.  (I guess no ride to work tomorrow).

The chicken is stuffed and in the oven.

I have refused to allow TV because it is all cartoons and silly shows with no substance.

We will check out the movie tonight.

Just one more day in Pardise.

Day 7

It is snow-SURPRISE!

Horrible – again!

Worse tomorrow.

Prince was in a wonderful mood and actually brought the dog in to cuddle this morning.  He wore Wonder Boy’s gloves.  (Maybe Wonder Boy or Red Seal would like the nice ones that I bought for him).

FHB was in a good mood – but sloooooowwwww in getting ready.

Am just getting ready for early pick up – the school resp0nsibilities for my shift are done!

Have a chicken on the counter to stuff and cook.

We thought we would order Julie and Julia on Pay Per View as a treat ($5.99 only) and reward for survivng the week) and also watch Ghandi??????

Tomorrow we have garbage cans and bed sheets to wash and that’s it!!!!

FHB wanted to swim today with Ben but I’m not sure that will happen.  (It was his idea and not Ben’s mother’s).

I truly wish Red Seal was here.  Have 28 telephone messages and also some emails to return.  I MISS HER.  (Maybe I should take a day to be grumpy!)  Kidding.

Prince and I watched a crazy Food show where they made Ejaculation Cake.  Interesting for closing the generational gap.

Well, the car is warming up.

Just saw a tow truck pass and a squirrel jumping snow banks (no connection).

I am not sure when you will arrive but if plane lands at 3 am there is Customs and the drive so assume it will be about 5 or 6 am

Hope you have a nap on the plane because I need to watch the forecast or have Red Seal rebook everything on Monday to later in the week.

Just another day in Paradise.

Curling

Well…FHB promised that the alien who had invaded his body over the last 24 hours was gone and would not return.  Apparently he was missing his mom!  I explained that it was not my fault that she left and that I didn’t deserve to be treated so poorly – especially when I was trying so hard to make sure that his needs are met.

I suggested that he tell me what to say and, because I have the same voice, I would say it.  When I returned from dropping Prince off at his job, FHB had his mother’s music playing.  Perhaps this is grief?????

Anyway, now we have re-established our relationship and I told him that I am sooooooooooo glad the alien has gone.  FHB claims that Daisy cheered him up (I forced him to go out in the yard with her after supper rather than neglect her).  Then we brought her in for a couple of hours and things are “all good” as Red Seal would say.

We celebrated by watching CURLING would you believe?  He turned to that channel and asked if I knew the game and could explain it to him.  Martin beat Howard in an exciting finish.  This gave me an opportunity to talk about how my parents won trophies and prizes as well as the Glenavon rink consisting of his uncles and mother.  He was sooooooo interested and I think we might have a budding curler on our hands.

Couldn’t find the cheese whiz for the requested sandwich but he settled for straight cheese.  The napkin has a rat drawn on it stating “Rats.  You beat me to the cheese”.

Prince states that he has a locker at Fine Foods but no lock.  Perhaps Red Seal could help him get one so that he can lock up his valuable hat and mitts :)

I am not going to buy any groceries as obviously my list would not match yours.  The fridge is finally getting to a manageable state (it was so full) but there are things that Red Seal will likely have to throw out when she returns.

The Hugarian Goulash “doesn’t taste like mom’s”.  Of course not.  I couldn’t find a can of tomatoes so used a jar of tomatoes with Basil.  Could find medium cheddar so used old.  And there was spaghetti instead of vermicelli.  It was more like spaghettis and meat sauce.  Oh well, they liked it.

Tomorrow is the final day of school for my shift and I pick them up early.  We have plans to purchase an Iphone for me and I passed your message about Ghandi to Prince.  Hope we can watch it tomorrow night.

There really isn’t any housework as I have made sure they clean up as they go.

Will have your bed changed and ready for the 3 am arrival.  I really hope I can get home on Sunday despite the warnings because Monday is PACKED.

I do need a little time with Red Seal before I depart to go over a few things though.

I’m just waiting for Prince to return from work.  He agreed to walk but is still too cool to wear a scarf.  He said he doesn’t need me to make supper for him tonight (I bet he will dig into the Goulash though).

He promised to distribute all the folded washing that I left on his bed (after I made it) and to help me make your bed (the covers are tooooooooo heavy) on Saturday.

Light bulb on Wonderboy’s side blew today so I hope Prince knows where to find a replacement.

I thought I would do lots of writing this week and so far it has been blogging.  If I felt better, perhaps things would have been different.

Just another day in Paradise….

Day 6

Today is warmer (-13 degrees) with light snow.  Apparently there are cars in the ditch everywhere in Calgary.

This is the first time that I have seen FHB grumpy.  Don’t know if he didn’t get enough sleep (in bed at 9pm) or if it was because I sewed his pants wrong or if it was because I put his sweater in the washing.

On the other hand, Prince was in the BEST mood that I have seen.  He not only put in a load of laundry and started the dishwasher before leaving but also came to the car with the new scarf and hat that I bought him.  Last night he was implying that he wasn’t into scarves but thankfully Iron Chef America had ice night and one of the judges had a scarf!!!!!

The routine is this:

1.  6:45 am wake up to Adam’s pre-set alarm

2.  Shut it off

3.  7:00 am wake up to Adam’s pre-set alarm

3.  Listen to the news and get up

4.  Go to the Bat Cave and give an annoyingly happy greeting (this mornning I didn’t even open my mouth and Prince said “I know. I know.”

5.  Inform Prince that you will sit in the white chair until he is in the shower.

6.  Sit there until you physically see him and hear the water running.

7.  Go upstairs to call FHB

8.  Sit on the bed and give an annoyingly happy greeting

9.  Tell FHB that you are going to brush your teeth so that he can then have his shower

10. Brush your teeth

11.  Inform FHB that he can now use the shower

12.  Assemble some kind of nutritious breakfast

13.  Wash dog dishes, refill and place outside (without letting dog enter)

14.  Make conversation during eating

15.  Put on coat and announce that you are leaving

16.  Put keys in the front door for the last person to lock and bring to car

17.  Go outside and wait in car (don’t forget to place the snow brush on the front of the car for Prince to use to clean your windows).

The children will actually help each other to get to the car knowing that their transportation needs will not be met unless they are in the car by 8 a.m.

On the way to school, start up conversation that involves humour, politics, scenes on the way or other ridiculous stuff.  The goal is to have them laugh as early in the day as possible so they get started right.

When I arrive home, I check the basement for growing or disgusting things.  I might straighten a bed, put the clothes that Prince has washed in the dryer and ALWAYS choose the meat for supper.

WOW!  9:10 am – My time is MINE! (To make food, do psychology practice, return calls etc.)

Today I am still not feeling well.  I choose hamburger to thaw and can do a number of things with it.

Think I should lie down for a spell.

Just another day in Paradise.

Day 5 – The Dog

I am very confused about Daisy.  Red Seal told me that she is to be outside as she has everything she needs.

We have brought her in a few times after school and at night but now Prince states that his parents have her in the house every evening.

FHB is in a horrible mood and went to bed.  I think it is because he wanted to stay up longer but it was 9 pm.  We had a good talk about my very favourite thing in life – TRUTH.  FHB was surprised that I didn’t pick him but honesty is still paramount and I explained that.

I talked with Prince about the drum teacher and perhaps Red Seal should attend the next lesson with him to discuss the music future.

Prince doesn’t want to watch Ghandi and so he has stories about homework that will take 3 hours to complete.  Next thing he is on itunes and claims the homework is done. (I may be crazy but I’m not stupid).

I know Red Seal only rented the movie because she wanted him to do well in Social and because I could discuss everything with him.

The weather forecast is not good.  In fact, it is to be progressively worse each day until Sunday.

FHB states that he is on traffic patrol tomorrow so I am not to get him until 3:35 pm  That will rush it for Prince who is at work at 5 pm – especially when the roads are horrible.  If he is late, he is late.

I am feeling better now but was not well today.  Spent some time in bed shivering and then fell asleep.  Sure didn’t want to leave the house – but did.

Lunch is packed and dog is quiet now.

Think a good book might be wise.

Just another day in Paradise.

Day 5 Update

Well….

You will NOT want to come home.  FHB shovelled the sidewalk and within an hour Prince had to do it again!  In fact the roads are like a skating rink!

I drove to Work Warehouse to get the replacements for the compacted mitts, scarf and hat.  Got FHB a burger because Prince was at his presentation class.  Prayed my way home and then, at 5 pm Prince called to say that his class was cancelled.  Felt like calling a cab but didn’t know how many hours he would have to wait at the school before it arrived.

Speaking of skating, FHB MUST HAVE skates and a helmet by December 16th at 12:45 pm for his field experience activity.  The CONSENT form MUST be returned no later than Monday December 14th so I will put it on the bulletin board for you to complete and deliver.  IMPORTANT!!!!

Enjoy your trip because you will HATE it here.  (You owe me – BIG TIME).

I’m a little concerned about getting home and clients start first thing Monday.  The schedule is PACKED.

Just another day in Paradise.
